Eagles Nest: Epic views, beach, in NY Times, Dwell
About the property
This unique cabin in Topanga Canyon is an incredible retreat with views from every room. A home that combines vintage charm with modern amenities, with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Wonderful for people looking for a peaceful getaway. Known as the Eagles Nest it has one of the best views in the canyon and the Santa Monica Mountains. Watch soaring hawks and rolling clouds amongst the tree tops. Located in climate perfect Fernwood near beaches and hiking in State Parks.
Our cabin in the sky is a magical retreat. There are state parks and several beaches nearby. Pacific coast highway and Topanga Canyon Boulevard are open and give access to many places across the region. Both the incredible house and the yard have sweeping views, with many birds, butterflies, trees, lizards, and flowers. Enjoy a beer or glass of wine, sitting outside talking, reading, and taking photos. Artists, writers, hair stylists, programmers, and scientists - locals and travelers from across the US and overseas - all love our place.
This Topanga gem is located in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains across from the State Park, with many majestic, mature oaks. The house has walls of windows overlooking the canyon, French doors, wide-plank oak floors, exposed wood ceiling beams, updated appliances, brick patios, and a large wraparound deck.
Note on the Palisades Fire: Fortunately our house, neighborhood and Topanga town is intact following the Palisades Fire and the area is now open to visit. The fire did impact Topanga State Park and Tuna Canyon Park. These areas are now active in regrowth with gorgeous flowers. Topanga in general avoided the widespread loss of property seen in Pacific Palisades and Malibu and is still a lovely place to visit.
There will be occasional landscapers around to keep up with the grounds and keep the plants watered.
There are up to two parking spots available for guests. Additional parking is available roadside on Observation Drive and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
Located off a quiet road in Topanga Canyon, this stunning house is accessible from the San Fernando Valley (via the 101 freeway and Topanga Canyon Boulevard or Old Topanga Canyon Road). 5 minutes away is a locally-owned coffee shop and rock and geode shop, and 10 minutes away is the Inn of the Seventh Ray, an organic restaurant and events venue. 15 minutes away is Tuna Canyon Park, Topanga State Park, and Red Rock Park. Driving to Malibu or Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center, in Woodland Hills, takes about half an hour. It takes about an hour from LAX airport if there's no traffic. Beaches are about a 30-45 minute drive.
Our lovely home is built around an oak tree from when you enter through the gate. In the spring and early summer, the flowers are in bloom. There's a river-rock fireplace for the winter. Ask us for firewood and we can provide some.
There are several spacious terraces and decks with spectacular views perfect for basking in the sunshine. There is a balcony with a chill space that is lovely for coffee and cocktails with a view on the upper floor of the house. There is a large outdoor deck with a view and a dining table with chairs and a second table with a bench perfect for sitting out for dinner. Two additional outdoor decks have views of the canyon and seating areas.
The house has a full kitchen, a center island that divides the living room from the kitchen, open shelving, windows above the sink and a dining nook looking out on the deck. There is a working fireplace, two offices, and lots of areas to lounge inside and outside. The kitchen has a refrigerator, double oven, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle, and dishwasher. There is a second outdoor refrigerator. A laundry room is available for use.
The property sleeps up to 8 people or four couples comfortably. There is a king size bed in the master bedroom, a full size bed in a second bedroom, a third bedroom with a double-sized futon, and a queen sized sofa bed in the living room. We may be able to provide access to additional space for a fee - a guest house and geodesic dome - if arrangements are made in advance.
We can provide flowers and coffee and tea to welcome you. We provide essentials, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap), kitchen items, bedding, pillows, and a yoga mat. With advance notice, on request, we can provide a baby bath, stroller, baby carrier, a pack-n-play crib, a dog crate, dog bed, dishes, and airport pick-up. Bring what you need.

This is an exceptional home with extraordinary views and an inspiring and tranquil setting. The decor is beautiful and the home is very comfortable. Multiple outdoor terraces on different levels of the property offer spaces for shared meals, solo contemplation, yoga if you’re so inclined, and connecting with the beautiful surroundings of the Santa Monica Mountains. I truly hope to return to this magical place.
Outstanding. No notes. Worth every penny.
The property is stunning. You open the gate and enter a fairy tale. Appreciated the many outdoor spaces to relax, eat, and gather. Wow.
